Tutorial 10: Bralette upcycled from old clothes
I finally graduated from Aalto University! Time to move on and extend my upcycling realm: this time I want to try textile upcycling. Since the fast-fashion industry has created so much trash on our planet! Please check out this post by VICE.
This time I want to try to make a bralette for myself, which is both beautiful and comfortable to wear.
Here are the materials I used:
- second-hand night dress
- sewing machine and thread
Inspired by a very nicely made video tutorial on Youtube: How to Make a Lace Bralette, created by fashion designer Wendy. According to her step-by-step tutorial instruction, I cut out the fabric according to Wendy's pattern, sew them together and applied embroidery on the bralette.
The results surprised me, it is such beautiful and elegant work and it is hard to see it is from old clothes.
It is very surprising to compare the final result with its original form, feels like there is magic into it, or a new life form was born during this creative process.
It took me three days to complete this work, even though the making is slow, it is very enjoyable, meditative and addicting. This is a nice start of my journey, I am looking forward to see what kind of product I will make later on. I love the combination of see through fabrics such as tulle with embroidery!
