Tutorial 03: a bralette upcycled from old clothes

This tutorial is about sewing and decorating a bralette from old clothes.

Tools and materials:

  • A second-hand night dress

  • Scissors

  • Sewing machine

  • Threads

  • Beads and sequins

  • Elastics

Inspired by a tutorial video on Youtube: How to Make a Lace Bralette, created by fashion designer Wendy. According to her step-by-step instructions, I cut out the fabric according to her pattern, sew them together and applied embroidery on the bralette.

It is such beautiful and elegant work, it is hard to see it is from old clothes.

Details of the embroidery work on the bralette surface.

I found a black evening dress from our local second-hand store (UFF).

I cut out the shape of a bralette from the pattern and sew 2 layers of them together.

Then I sewed the bra accessories.

Applying embroidery of beads, sequins on the surface

It is very surprising to compare the final result with its original form, a new life form was born during this creative process.

Even though the making process is slow, it is very enjoyable, meditative and addicting. This is a nice start of my journey, I am looking forward to see what kind of product I will make later on. I love the combination of see through fabrics such as tulle with embroidery!
